ON THE ANALYSIS OF LOCAL STRENGTH OF THE SHIP USING THE " STANDARD UNIT METHOD"

The analysis by the finite element method generally requires a large amount of input data, and a considerable amount of computer time to obtain stiffness matrices. The "standard unit method", described in this paper, is introduced in order to remove those difficulties. In this method, information about joints and elements are not necessary. Each of the unit stiffness matrices is calculated directly by the simple addition of partial stiffness matrices which are obtained, in advance, in connection with the standard unit. In this paper, examples are described of the analysis of local strength of the ship, using the "standard unit method".
