A LEADERSHIP GUIDE TO QUALITY IMPROVEMENT FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES SYSTEMS

This manual provides a useful guide for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system leaders to use to improve quality within their organizations. The manual encourages EMS leaders to integrate continuous quality improvement (QI) practices into EMS operations to the extent that those practices become an essential and seamless part of normal EMS routines. The document uses the Malcolm Baldridge Quality Program as a model to guide an organizations' QI efforts and to evaluate its progress. The Baldridge program identifies seven key action areas or categories. The QI information in the manual is organized according to those seven categories, as follows: 1. Leadership; 2. Information and Analysis; 3. Strategic Quality Planning; 4. Human Resource Development and Management; 5. EMS Process Management; 6. EMS System Results; and 7. Satisfaction of Patients and Other Stakeholders.
