LUF: A NEW CONCEPT IN MATERIALS HANDLING SPEEDS VESSEL TURNAROUNDS
A new cargo handling system has been developed for speeding vessel turnarounds by handling larger unit loads than single containers. Called the Luf (lift unit frame) system, it was introduced last year for the loading and discharging of 20-ft containers on and off roll-on/roll-off vessels by Tor Line. The system essentially enables four 20-ft containers to be rolled aboard in one package, thus economizing time, labor and equipment.
