BEHAVIOUR OF SHOPPRIMERS IN UNDERWATER PAINT SYSTEMS UNDER CATHODIC PROTECTION

An investigation has been carried out into the behavior of shopprimers in underwater paint systems under cathodic protection. For this investigation four anticorrosive paint systems have been applied over eighteen different shopprimers belonging to six types. The systems have been tested by immersion in natural seawater under cathodic protection at three potential levels and without cathodic protection. In general only minor differences have been found between the three shopprimers tested per type. The differences between the types of shopprimers seem to be somewhat greater with the chlorinated rubber paints than with the coaltar/epoxy paints.
