VISUAL FATIGUE AND TINTED GLASS IN CARS

LA FATIGUE VISUELLE ET LES VERRES TEINTES DANS L'AUTOMOBILE

This report deals with visual fatigue caused by light intensity due to the large area of glass in modern cars. This intensity increases in sunny weather. The best solution would be to fit cars with glass whose coefficient of transmission varies with outside light. Unfortunately, this type of glass already used in the manufacture of spectacles, has a fairly long response time which is not compatible with driving. Another method would be to reduce the transmission of light by means of a tinted vizor filtering the light without reducing the field of vision. Neither solution has been implemented yet because of the high cost of the materials to be used and because it would necessitate a modification of the existing standards.
