SAFETY DEVICES AND THEIR EFFECT IN THE LOAD TRANSPORTER VW-LT

SICHERHEITSBUTEILE UND IHRE WIRKUNG BEIM LASTTRANSPERTER VW-LT

In order to provide the passengers in a front wheel drive commercial vehicle with a safety level comparable to that of cars, special safety devices such as deformable elements and deformation resisting elements have been developed and tested in relation to the deformation behaviour of the bodywork and chassis of the vw-lt load transporter. The proven deformable and deformation resisting elements built in conjunction with the stiff chassis and the stable driver's cab, result in a good frontal impact behaviour. The loading on the passengers in a 50 km/h wall impact does not exceed the bearable level, and the room for movement is adequate. As a result of the subsequent development work, A level of safety was reached for the vw load transporter which can compare overall with that of cars. /TRRL/
