A NEW LOOK AT THE OLD PROBLEM OF COLLISION AVOIDANCE
In in-depth study of the professional deck officer's skill and to what level of proficiency he can be trained in using collision avoidance equipment, led to the development of a "natural" manual technique as a viable counterpart to the "automated collision avoidance system". Radar diagrams of various situations, including high density traffic, are presented.
