1,000 CU M TRAILING SUCTION HOPPER DREDGER "KAMCHATSKIY" FOR SUDOIMPORT, U.S.S.R.

The 1,000 cu m trailing suction hopper dredger "KAMCHATSKIY" designed by IHI and completed by IHI's affiliated company (Ishikawajima Ships and Chemical Plates Co., Ltd.) was delivered to SUDOIMPORT, U.S.S.R. in July 1976. This ship, with a length of 70.0 m, breadth of 13.5 m, gross tonnage of 2,131 t, hopper capacity of 1,000 cu m, and dead weight of 1,514 t, is capable of dredging loose sand, silt and mud up to a maximum dredging depth of 12m. The main role of this ship is to maintain harbor and channel facilities and to develop dredging work in shallow waters around Kamchatka, U.S.S.R. This ship is equipped with a long discharge boom for the agitation dredging work and is capable of three kinds of dredged matter discharging methods: agitation dredging, shore dredging, and hopper dumping methods. This ship is provided with many modern instruments for dredging work, and special considerations were given to the design of this ship to cope with the dredging work in cold districts.
