The present paper deals with the characteristics of the form effects on viscous resistance of ships. The paper is divided into two parts. Part I treats the effect of the transverse curvature and Part II that of the longitudinal curvature of two-dimensional bodies. The latter effect is further separated into two parts; one due to friction and the other due to pressure. Discussions are based principally on the boundary layer theory developed on the following items and some practical methods of calculation or formulas are presented: a) the form effect influenced by the transverse curvature on frictional resistance. b) the form effect of two-dimensional bodies on frictional resistance. c) the form effect on pressure resistance.
