THE ROLE OF THE SUPERVISOR OF SALVAGE IN OIL POLLUTION ABATEMENT

As the Supervisor of Salvage, U. S. Navy, Captain Mitchell discussed the various directives and Public Law 513, U. S. Congress from which he derives his authority to pursue an active course in oil pollution abatement. He then provides the specific areas of responsibility assigned to the Supervisor of Salvage; cites the Navy accomplishments made in the field of oil pollution abatement and discusses the Navy future plans and objectives. Captain Mitchell concludes by pointing out that only through the combined efforts of the military and oil industry, will the oil pollution problem be defeated.
