CHANNEL EFFECTS IN HARBOR RESONANCE

The effect of an entrance channel on the response of narrow mouthed harbors to long periodic incident water waves is examined. A channel effect analogous to harbor paradox of J.W. Miles and W. Munk is found and explained in terms of a Helmholtz resonator. Calculations are given for specific harbor geometries and indicate a lowering and crowding together of harbor resonance frequencies and an increase in amplification as the entrance channel length increases.
