London's Heathrow, one of the World's busiest airports, has a hydrant fuelling system that has been built up step by step since 1969 to meet steadily mounting requirements. Following a description of this system, which is second to none in the world, the author turns his attention to general questions concerning the design and installation of fuel distribution systems of this kind. He also touches on securily questions and describes some of the experience so far accumulated. Finally, in a brief glance ahead, he suggests developments that should not be ignored by airport planners.
