THE PREDICTION OF THE SHEAR LAG EFFECT IN BOX GIRDERS
The paper describes the application and adaptation of two methods, originally developed for use in aeronautical engineering, to the prediction of shear lag effects in single cell box girders of the type and proportions normally encountered in civil engineering. The basic theory of the methods is presented and their accuracy in the analysis of single cell box girders of various proportions, under different loading and support conditions, is established by comparing results given by the methods with those predicted by a finite element solution. Values obtained using the design rules for box girders are also included in this comparison. (A) /TRRL/
