DETERMINATION OF THE VISCOSITY OF BITUMEN

SUR LA DETERMINATION DE LA VISCOSITE DES BITUMES

As part of a study of the rgeological behaviour of bitumens varying in composition depending bitumen viscosity. Three types of equipment were compared: a rotating viscosimeter with coaxial cylinders, a rotating micro-consistency meter of the cone-plate type, and a capillary viscosimeter with forced flow. These three devices permit the determination of the viscosity for a wide range of temperatures and velocity gradients. In practice, it would be particularly interesting to use a single device only if the latter could enable bitumens to be studied from ambient temperature up to 130-150 degrees C. An investigation was carried out into the viscosity of various bituminous mixtures from asphaltene and maltene solutions to hard bitumen cotaining 28% asphaltene. /TRRL/ /TRRL/
