INFLUENCE OF STATIC AND SEQUENCED ELASTOTHERMOPLASTIC COPOLYMERS ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES
INFLUENCE COPOLYMERES, STATISTIQUES ET SEQUENCES, ELASTOTHERMOPLASTIQUES SUR LES PROPRIETES MECHANIQUES DES ENROBES BITUMINEUX
The two elastothermoplastic polymers selected for a previous investigation were a tri-sequenced butadiene styrene and a static vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer. This investigation consisted of: (1) a study of the influence of the addition of various quantities of polymer to the bitumen on the mechanical properties of mortar subjected to simple compression, diametrical compression, and direct tensile stress; (2) a study and development of a modified bitumen by analysis of a mortar and a bituminous mixture; (3) the construction of an experimental section. The results obtained show that these polymers give to the bituminous mixtures added strength at extreme temperatures, lesser sensitivity to heat, and expecially doubled or even trebled extension at low temperature. The manufacture and laying of these mixtures do not give rise to any problems if the temperature is kept at the required level. /TRRL/
