Continuous combustion methods are developed which exhibit excellent emissions characteristics on a wide variety of liquid fuels as well as possibly using powdered fuel slurries. Furthermore, it is possible to demonstrate that a single combustor design can be adapted to a broad range of viscosities, grades and heating values in a single unit. This means that a single vehicle could be adapted to use a wide variety of fuels and fuel mixtures thus reducing dependence on petroleum resources. Type of combustor developed for use on a modern steam automobile which has already surpassed the ultimate federal emissions standards and demonstrated low emissions characteristics on a broad range of petroleum based and non- petroleum fuels and future possibilities are discussed including the range of candidate fuel types, combustor refinements, and the impact on future fuel shortages.
