PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (ABRIDGMENT)

The main objective of the pavement maintenance and repair management system is to provide guidelines for the efficient and economic use of available maintenance funds. The system can be implemented manually or through the use of computers and consists of the following activities: (a) dividing the pavement network into manageable and consistent sections, (b) inspecting pavement sections, (c) recording significant pavement information, (d) determining maintenance needs and priorities, and (e) developing work plans. A flow chart of the system in Figure 1. Detailed procedures and guidelines for performing the activities are available elsewhere (1,2). The system is currently being implemented by the Alaska district of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and several U.S. Army installations.
