COMMUTER RAIL PLANNING IN ONTARIO: AN OVERVIEW OF PLANNING AND OF OPERATIONAL AND RIDERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS

The gap between travel demand and supply in the Toronto region is being widened with the result that peak period congestion on both existing transit and road facilities is becoming progressively worse. The extension and expansion of existing or implementation of new commuter rail facilities are discussed in this report including legislative and institutional considerations, level of service, planning, stations and cost.
