A CONTRIBUTION TO THE DESIGN OF SHIPS' STEAM-GENERATORS
After pointing out some design problems associated with increases in live-steam pressure in ships; steam-generating installations (both with and without reheat), the Author examines mathematically the operating conditions in such installations. A method of calculation is then presented to enable the approximate design of the boiler furnace (including the three-burner as well as the more usual four-burner type), which will provide for complete combustion with safety, to be determined at an early stage in design. This will allow progress to be made in the design of the installation as a whole. Graphs are included to facilitate the solution.
