A STUDY ON PRE-ERECTION SYSTEM IN HULL CONSTRUCTION
Proceedings from a discussion of the basic erection procedures in shipbuilding, the paper presents a comparative study of floating and non-floating transfer systems for pre-erected sections. It is shown that pre-erection by the floating transfer method does not permit large scale production and also poses problems where levelling off of man-hours is concerned. For pre-erection by the non-floating transfer method, a calculation procedure is developed, relating length of the pre-erection dock to the productive capacity. The basic requirements of a mechanical transfer device are outlined and the fundamental design of the system adopted by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is described.
