A novel method is outlined of forming concrete structures under water by continuous vertical concrete construction, i.e. slipforming. Unlike the land-based operation using jacks, the lifting force in this method is provided by the positive buoyancy of the shutter assembly. Advantages of the method over existing forms of construction are examined and applications in the field of maritime structures proposed.
