ERECTION STRENGTH ADEQUACY OF LONG TRUSS CANTILEVERS

Structural steelwork design specifications commonly limit erection stresses to fixed multiples of design stresses. This type of limitation is not necessarily adequate for controlling the erection of large bridges. This paper develops a logical theory for the erection stressing of monumental truss bridgework, and implements it with a stress-analysis procedure. Historical background material on the evaluation of truss bridgework, the develompent of catilever erection, and the analysis of secondary stresses is included.
