COMPUTER CAN INCREASE BULK SHIP'S INCOME
The U.K. Atomic Energy Authority using Harwell scientists have developed a computer program for scheduling a bulk cargo fleet. The program has been used for over 1 year by a shipping company which reports substantially increased fleet profitability under both strong and weak market conditions. The system is adaptable to small or large fleet operators. An example is cited of an 8 ship operator with 400 ship days where the computer quickly saved 8 days over that produced by manual techniques.
