SPEED-POWER CHARACTERISTICS OF HYDROFOIL VEHICLES WITH FULLY SUBMERGED FOILS
The speed-power relation of hydrofoil vehicle with fully submerged foil through take-off and foil borne speeds is predicted. A basic language computer program is developed to calculate total vehicle drag. The Series 65 model test results are used in conjunction with a mathematical model of the foil, strut and pod systems. Optimum trim angles and EHP/ton at take-off speed are presented for each size and configuration investigated. The impact of volumetric coefficient on take off drag is also shown.
