IMPROVING FUEL EFFICIENCY OF EXISTING TANKERS

This timely paper identifies four main areas in which steps can be initiated to achieve improved fuel efficiency in existing tankers. They are the powerplant and its auxiliaries, the propeller, hull resistance, and navigation and steering. Specific items discussed in each area range from simple operational procedure changes to major modifications.
