The preventive maintenance concept for asphaltic highway surface care described is intended to give all areas of the Kansas Department of Transportation the necessary procedures for such work. The important factors affecting the success of these maintenance practices is the timing of various phases of operations such as surface restoration, fogging, and resurfacing. The key to timing of all operation is rigid field inspections throughout the system annually, making it possible to schedule work at the appropriate time.
