DEEPWATER PORTS IN THE UNITED STATES: TECHNOLOGY IN PERSPECTIVE

This report discusses the technical factors in the operation of a deepwater port for use by supertankers. The types of offshore terminals include conventional piers, sea islands, sea island piers, multiple buoy berths (MBBs) and single point mooring (SPM) systems. The technical aspects of ship design unique to supertankers and the docking operations are also discussed.
