CAVITATION EROSION

With increasing requirements of higher speeds and smaller sizes for liquid-flow systems, the designer is confronted with cavitation erosion as a serious limitation. The various engineering aspects of this problem are shown in a graph. The design and material selection process draw information from basic research and screening tests. As of now there is no acceptable model testing technique although some attempts are being made to develop one. Most of the contemporary investigators are concentrating their efforts on basic research into the mechanics of bubble growth and collapse, the mechanisms of material removal and the interaction of environment on these processes.
