HYDRODYNAMIC PROBLEMS IN OIL-SPILL CONTROL AND REMOVAL
The author analyzes the fluid mechanics involved in dispersion of oil spills and in various devices for cleaning up spills. Mathematical models are developed for three types of oil skimmers: weir, rotating-disk, and endless oleophilic-belt skimmers. Analysis of the model equations should aid in optimizing performance of each type of skimmer.
