SIMULATING OFFSHORE PIPE-LAYING -- 1. PIPE-LAY STRESSES KEY ANALYSIS PROBLEM

Computer simulation is required to analyze many deepwater, offshore pipeline problems. This article describes how computer applications can solve most of the stress analysis, whether for pipe-laying and joining or for testing and operations. Two types of computer programs are involved: One analyzes pipe-laying stresses and the lay barge and pipeline tracks required to position on target for connection; the other analyzes pressure-thermal elongation and stress.
