OVERVIEW OF THE UTMS ON THE NAGANO WINTER OLYMPIC GAMES

The 18th Nagano Winter Olympic Games, the last Olympic event for this century, held from February 7th through 22nd in 1998, had successfully finished. Nagano UTMS (Universal Traffic Management Systems) with Traffic Management and ITS technology were introduced in order to smooth out the transport operation for road traffic within Olympic terms, aiming at operation support for Nagano IOC. The bases of Nagano UTMS were to provide the extended application of their systems and appropriate Traffic Information, by collection of detailed information via bi-directional communication between infrared beacon and On-board unit. This document describes the introductory bases and basic concepts as well as comprehensive evaluation of these systems. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
