A STUDY ON THE FREEWAY INCIDENT RESPONSE MODEL BASED ON FUZZY SYSTEM

The focus of this study is to develop incident response model for incident management program designed to reduce incident related traffic congestion and delay. Traffic incident data obtained from traffic detectors and information systems on freeways should be considered to determine the best form of operation. Establishing a fuzzy control system based on a real operation process of incident response would help decrease the work load of skilled operators who are constantly make essential decisions, and would be helpful in developing a more reliable operation procedure. The study shows the fuzzy system for incident service time (incident clearance stage). As a result of this study, the fuzzy incident response system is effective in describing the actual judgment of the incident operators. In addition, improvements on the model of ATMS(Advanced Traffic Management Systems) and ATIS (Advanced Traveler Information Systems) strategies are suggested.
