A ROLE OF VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC FLOW CONTROL SYSTEM ON JAPANESE AHS

The Advanced Cruise-Assist Highway System Research Association has been established since 1996 in Japan, to accelerate the research and development of an AHS(Advanced Cruise-Assist Highway System). The Vehicle and Traffic Flow Control System tries to improve the safe driving and efficiency of traffic transportation, furthermore, agreeable driving and gas consuming, and gives its functional role to Japanese AHS. In 1996, the research and development was focused on the vehicle and traffic flow control in the merge and diverges behavior. In 1997, the work was extended to fundamental design of the system as one of the basic components of the AHS in Japan. This paper discusses the idea of fundamental role for vehicle and traffic flow control system in AHS. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
