MICROSCOPIC SIMULATIONS OF FREEWAY TRAFFIC FLOW

This paper describes a microscopic simulation technique for traffic in which the traffic flow is simulated with vehicle movements that are based on a fuzzy knowledge model of highway driver behavior. All aspects of highway driving are covered, including car following braking, discretionary and mandatory lane changing. It is shown that the simulation results from this proposed technique closely resemble the real world traffic flow.
