Holding on to good engineers is today's management challenge as employees seek the most stimulating opportunities in the most suitable work environment. While there is no sure way to retain good people, selected communications motivators can be used to create the professional setting that encourages a positive attitude about working at a firm. One key is to think outside the day-to-day routine and create enthusiasm, both internally and externally, about the work a firm is doing and the impact of that work on the community. Loyalty and commitment grow when project managers and technical staff feel they are part of an organization in which leaders care about them and their contributions.
