EUROPEAN TEST PROGRAMME OF WIM SYSTEMS: COLD ENVIRONMENT TEST AND CONTINENTAL MOTORWAY TEST

The European Test Programme (ETP) of the COST323 action is the main large scale trial of WIM systems ever organised in Europe. It consists of two tests: the Cold Environment Test (CET), carried out on a main road in Northern Sweden and the Continental Motorway Test (CMT), carried out on a heavily trafficked motorway in Eastern France. Both tests are planned for 14 to 18 months and have the common objective, as part of the COST323 action, to evaluate the performances and accuracy of the marketed or prototype WIM systems using the European specification COST323. Most of the European manufacturers are involved in one or the other parts of the ETP. Outside of the ETP, the CET belongs to the WAVE project. This keynote paper introduces the two next papers.
