The author discusses his work, as the lead sculptor of a firm specializing in "tensioned fabric sculpture". The fabric panels offer protection from the sun. The firm enjoys the freedom to develop new and different canopy point supports and connection hardware. The end product is never static, the fabric panels of any given sculpture are expected to move. They undulate gracefully and shadow patterns dance on both vertical and horizontal surfaces. Patterns and movement are as integral as sun protection, and sometimes a major reason for creating the piece. The firm relies on webbing, not cable, as perimeter reinforcement of a panel. Whenever possible, they invite their clients to give them the latitude to use "fabric forms under tension" to solve functional and/or aesthetic needs.
