MODEL TO IDENTIFY HIGH-PRIORITY ENVIRONMENTAL AREAS

The U.S. Department of Transportation is testing a computer model that identifies areas where a pipeline rupture could cause permanent or long-term environmental damage. Once defined, the areas can be plotted on maps accessible via the Internet. Tests will be conducted in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida: states that have 45% of the nation's pipelines.
