DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONAL TRAFFIC INFORMATION ON DEMAND SERVICE (PTIODS)

This paper presents a Personal Traffic Information On Demand Service (PTIODS) system, which provides users with real-time traffic information and path plan through wireless communication unit. When a user enters his/her starting point and destination on an equipment with two-way communication, the traffic information center determines the shortest path and the estimated time of arrival to the destination. And this information with the map is sent to the user for displaying on a simple display unit through a two-way communication unit. In this paper, we develop a map database structure for traffic information and a front network database which is designed to avoid computation time explosion usually involved with centralized multi- user processing.
