This paper presents an approach for assessing a safety critical computer-based railway system. Assessment criteria are presented for a safety critical digital architecture, including the generic measures used to construct a safe architecture and a set of criteria for judging compliance. The criteria have been applied to assess various case studied used in the European project Assessment and Certification Rules for Digital ARchitecture (ACRuDA).
