PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT OF AN OPTICAL SENSOR BASED IGNITION CONTROLLER BY COMPUTER MODELLING AND SIMULATION

This paper presents an evaluation of an optical combustion sensor based ignition control system. This is achieved by modeling and simulating the engine-sensor-feedback system using the Simulink computer software. The model of the ignition process predicts engine torque output based on throttle demand, using an optically-sensed feedback signal. Example results for several control algorithms and simulation results help to identify potential problems in the chosen ignition control scheme prior to design and application.
