THE IMPACT OF PREDICTIVE INFORMATION ON GUIDANCE EFFICIENCY : AN ANALYTICAL APPROACH

This paper presents an analytical approach towards understanding the acceptability of route guidance information by motorists. Efforts are made to identify the critical factors that are involved in the design of advanced traveler information systems. The analysis involves: 1) estimating the benefits of accurate predictions of traffic conditions; 2) assessing the sensitivity of guidance provision to inaccuracies and imperfections in the traffic predictions; and, 3) comparing the behavior of uninformed drivers with that of driving receiving myopic or predictive guidance.
