'SMART SYSTEM' ALERTS SCHOOL BUSES TO APPROACHING TRAINS

This article describes results of pilot testing at a Minnesota school district of an in-vehicle signing system used in preventing highway- rail accidents. The system works by sending signals from the train sensor to the crossbuck which in turn sends a signal to a smart plate on the school bus. An in-vehicle display unit onboard the bus releases audible and visual warnings to the driver.
