THE DEADLOCK PROBLEM IN AUTOMATIC RAILWAY OPERATION

This paper describes a method for avoiding operational deadlock in railroad transportation. It is based on a previewing analysis of interdependencies between certain movements. A special logic is used to detect the appearance of circular wait structures before they can cause a deadlock. This method is applicable to the control logic of automatic train route devices.
