COMPUTER SIGHT REDUCTION BASED ON INTERSECTION OF EQUAL ALTITUDE CIRCLES

This paper proposes a method of computer sight reduction which is conceptually straight-forward and easily adaptable to desk top calculators like the Hewlett-Packard 9100A, Wang 300 series or to the larger general purpose computers. The method is based on the fact that a star sight tells the navigator that he is on a "Circle of equal altitude." His position, then, is on the intersection of two such circles. The next section describes the theory behind the method. The section following that presents an algorithm for computer realization of the method, while final section gives concluding remarks.
