PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS UPDATE (1996-1999)

This issue of Current Topics includes over 90 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on recent developments in pavement management systems (PMS). Subjects covered include design aspects of PMS, such as the integration of (and into) geographical information systems (GIS) and the use of knowledge based expert systems (KBES); software compatibility, and the evaluation of the costs and benefits of using PMS. Numerous case studies demonstrate the implementation of PMS for local and wide area highway networks in many parts of the world, with particular emphasis on the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1996 and 1999. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
