UPGRADING FOR ATO ON THE YOKOHAMA KANAZAWA SEASIDE LINE

The Kanazawa Seaside Line started the revenue service in Yokohama City in July 1989 and began a fully automated operation in 1994 by upgrading the transportation capability to meet increasing numbers of passengers. To achieve a fully automated operation, design work started in 1990, and after a test operation on test track in 1991, installation of wayside equipment and the vehicle improvement started in 1992. This paper presents the steps taken in upgrading the system to automatic operation under revenue service.
