PROBABILISTIC EVALUATION OF FORCE-BASED BRIDGE SEISMIC DESIGN METHOD

The force-based design method in most of the current seismic design codes and standards is reviewed in this paper, then the probabilistic evaluation of the design method is carried out. The results show that it is the variance of the seismic response of structure along the vibration period that causes the inconsistency of the safety level according to this method. How to improve the compatibility of this method to ensure the safety of structures and the detemination of reliability-consistent design formula are also studied.
