REDUCING EXISTING UNDERGROUND UTILITY RISKS ON AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS: SUBSURFACE UTILITY ENGINEERING

Design and construction projects for airports create risks for everyone. Underground utilities are a significant portion of this risk. The ASCE has convened a national standards activity to address this growing and important problem and to publicize a solution to its membership. This activity is based upon the tenets of the existing practice of subsurface utility engineering. Airport sponsors are encouraged by the Secretary of Transportation to use subsurface utility engineering on their projects.
