SHORT-DISTANCE TRANSPORT SYSTEMS IN JAPAN: CURRENT STATUS AND FUTURE PROSPECTS
In Japan short distance transportation systems have been planned and implemented in and around (1) large scale developments in urban areas, (2) new suburban housing developments, and (3) large scale transportation terminals such as airports and railway terminals. The introduction of the short distance transportation systems effectively alleviates vehicular traffic, raises the value of asset regarding developed land and effective operation of the transportation terminals. The Ministry of Construction supports development of these short distance transportation systems both financially and technically.
